Hand off work from ChatGPT to a colleague’s assistant

With Colle connected to ChatGPT, you say “send this to James, he runs the launch now” and James gets a handoff with the summary, the key facts and the files. He picks it up in his own ChatGPT or Claude, with nothing to re-explain. Sending through ChatGPT needs a ChatGPT Business or Enterprise plan.

What Colle does in ChatGPT

Colle gives ChatGPT the same small set of tools it gives Claude, for work that changes hands. You talk to ChatGPT as usual; it uses the tools when you ask it to pass something on or to check what came in.

  • Send a handoff to up to five colleagues at once, or to a team space where one member picks it up.
  • Ask “what did I get?” and see the handoffs waiting for you, with who sent them and by when.
  • Return a handoff with a reason, mark it done, or recall one you sent to the wrong person.
  • Search the cases you can access, including files by their description.
  • Record a fact on a case (a deadline, an amount, a decision) so the next person sees the current value and its history.

What it sounds like

You say to your assistant
Ask Rachel to check the contract terms

ChatGPT finds Rachel in your company, writes a summary of what she needs to look at and attaches the contract. Rachel gets a notification straight away, accepts the handoff and asks her own assistant to flag the risky clauses. It already has the contract, and it does not matter whether she works in ChatGPT or Claude. If two people share a name, you are asked which one you mean before anything is sent.

Other things people say:

  • “Send James this invoice, pay by Friday.”
  • “Give Tom the client brief and our meeting notes.”
  • “Hand this complaint to logistics with the order number.”

Which ChatGPT plans work

Everyone keeps their own assistant subscription; Colle connects them. To send handoffs from ChatGPT you need ChatGPT Business or Enterprise. The person you send to can just as well work in Claude, so a mixed team does not have to agree on one assistant first.

How to connect it

During the pilot we set Colle up with you on one call. In short: an administrator creates your company in Colle and invites people by email; each person then adds Colle to their own ChatGPT and signs in with their Colle account.

ChatGPT shared projects vs a Colle handoff

A shared project in ChatGPT is a common workspace. A member with chat access can see and use the project's chats, files and instructions; a member with edit access can also change the instructions and files and invite others. On Business, Enterprise and Edu plans a project holds up to 40 files, and in a managed workspace invitations can be limited to workspace members. A shared project keeps its own private memory, and on business plans projects are shared only with people in your workspace.

That suits a group working on the same thing over time. A handoff is for giving one piece of work to a named person: the summary, the files, a deadline, and a status that shows whether they accepted it, returned it or finished it. It is seen only by the sender and the recipient, and the recipient can continue in Claude as well as ChatGPT.

Security in short

Your data is hosted in the EU (Frankfurt), every company's data is isolated on every query, and a handoff sent to a person is seen only by the sender and the recipient. ChatGPT (OpenAI) is not Colle's sub-processor: OpenAI processes your conversation under your own agreement with them. More on the security page, and the same connector for Claude is described on the Claude page.

Questions

Which ChatGPT plan do I need?

Sending handoffs through ChatGPT needs ChatGPT Business or Enterprise. Each person pays for their own assistant; Colle is billed separately.

Can I send work to a colleague who uses Claude?

Yes. A handoff sent from ChatGPT can be picked up in Claude, and the other way round. Microsoft Copilot and Gemini are coming soon.

Is this the same as sharing a ChatGPT project?

No. A shared project gives members access to its chats, files and instructions. A handoff gives one named person one piece of work, with files, a deadline and a status you can follow.

What does Colle cost?

€15 per active person per month, or €12.50 billed yearly, excluding VAT. People who only receive notifications do not pay. Try it free for 7 days.
