# Colle vs Handover

Handover (handover.sh) offers shared, versioned context for humans and AI agents, aimed at coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI. Colle hands work between people in business teams, right inside their Claude and ChatGPT chats, with notifications and statuses. Developers passing context to agents may prefer Handover; teams handing off tasks, Colle.

## When to choose Handover

Handover, made by 44pixels Limited, describes itself as shared, versioned context for humans and AI agents. It is aimed at coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI. Its site has guides, templates, an AI handoff prompt generator, a benchmark, research, a protocol, case studies, a changelog and a roadmap.

Choose Handover when the work is software and context has to pass between developers and their coding agents, for example when one agent session ends and another person or agent carries on. If your team lives in terminals and editors, it is built around that way of working.

## When to choose Colle

Choose Colle when people in a business team pass work to each other: a client brief, a contract, an invoice, a complaint. There is no new place to work. You tell your Claude or ChatGPT “pass the draft to Rachel: price €12,400, sign by the 20th”, and Rachel gets a handoff with the summary, the facts and the file. A Chrome pop-up reaches her in about 0.2 seconds, with Web Push on desktop and phone, and she continues in her own assistant.

The handoff has an owner and a status: accepted, returned with a reason, done, or overdue after the 20th. The price and the date are recorded as facts with their history. You can send to up to five people, or to a space where one member picks the work up. See [how it works](/how-it-works/).

Colle is not the best fit for every case. It is not built for passing context between coding agents, and if that is your main need, Handover is closer to it. Data is hosted in the EU (Frankfurt), and administrators can export a tamper-evident audit log; more on the [security page](/security/). Colle costs €15 per active person per month, or €12.50 billed yearly, excluding VAT. See [pricing](/pricing/).

## Using both

The two can live in the same company without overlapping much. The engineering team keeps agent context in Handover; when a bug report or a release note needs to reach someone in support or sales, it goes through Colle, so that person is notified, owns the next step and can return it with a comment.

To see how a handoff to a colleague differs from an agent-to-agent hand-off, read [AI handoff vs agent handoff vs team handoff](/blog/ai-handoff-vs-agent-handoff-vs-team-handoff/). Setup for each assistant is on the [Claude](/integrations/claude/) and [ChatGPT](/integrations/chatgpt/) pages.
