# Colle vs ChatGPT shared projects

A shared ChatGPT project is a common workspace: members see the project’s chats, files and instructions and can continue a colleague’s thread. Colle hands a specific task to a specific person, with a deadline and a status, and also works with Claude. Use a shared project for joint work in ChatGPT and Colle when work changes hands.

## When to choose ChatGPT shared projects

A shared ChatGPT project is a common place to work. A member with chat access can see and use the project's chats, files and instructions; a member with edit access can also change the instructions and files and invite others. On Business, Enterprise and Edu plans a project holds up to 40 files, and in a managed workspace invites can be limited to workspace members.

A shared project has its own private memory, and on business plans projects are shared only with members of your workspace.

In practice every member sees every chat in the project and can pick up a colleague's thread where it stopped.

Choose a shared project when a small group works on the same thing in ChatGPT and wants everything in view: a campaign, a pitch, a research topic. If openness is the point, it does the job well.

## When to choose Colle

Choose Colle when one person needs to take over one piece of work. You tell ChatGPT or Claude “send James this invoice, pay by Friday”, and James gets a handoff with a summary, the facts and the file. A Chrome pop-up reaches him in about 0.2 seconds, with Web Push on desktop and phone, and he accepts with one click.

The handoff has an owner and a status: accepted, returned with a reason, done, or overdue when Friday passes. The deadline is recorded as a fact with its history. A handoff sent to a person is seen only by the sender and the recipients, which matters when the rest of the team should not read the whole thread. James can continue in ChatGPT or in Claude. See [how it works](/how-it-works/).

Colle is not the best fit for every case: if your group wants one shared space with every chat visible, a shared project is closer to that. Sending from ChatGPT needs ChatGPT Business or Enterprise. Data is hosted in the EU (Frankfurt); more on the [security page](/security/). Colle costs €15 per active person per month, or €12.50 billed yearly, excluding VAT. See [pricing](/pricing/).

## Using both

Work together in a shared project, and hand off with Colle when a task leaves the group or moves to one owner. The campaign stays in the project; “Ask Rachel to check the contract terms” goes through Colle, so Rachel is notified, owns the review and can return it with a comment.
